This is the important information that your work IT department will need.  It shouldn't be pages though.

Apologies I may have exaggerated due to being rather stressed, it isn't pages but possibly as much as 100 lines or so of text and code.I have found someone who has agreed to pass the message across in its entirety to the person I am trying to contact so that they can pass it to IT.

Does it only happen when you use thunderbird? or the virgin online hub? or both?

Does it only happen with your virgin.net email account

It happens regardless of whether I try and send direct from the Virgin media portal online or Thunderbird. I have tried sending via outlook and it happens then as well.

Virgin are going to get back to me in a few days if they can think of a solution and work are going to see if they can set up a proper 'allow' for my emails.

You need to use "Forward as Attachment" to prevent the forwarded  email looking like a forgery.

Are you sure the address is correct and still a valid account? It could be that the ones getting through are the aberration.

Did the email genuinely "bounce"? This has a specific meaning in email which most people don't understand. A bounce occurs when the recipient server accept an email and then doesn't deliver it. It most cases email is rejected instead. For a bounce the DSN (error message email) is generated by the recipient server instead of the sending server. If you see something like mailer-daemon@virgin.net it's not a bounce If this were an ordinary rejection, it's very unlikely to be the result of spam filtering.

Attachments always get denied- the only ones that occasionally get through are a simple email.

I get the email returned with the heading 'mail delivery failed, return to sender'. then the body of the email starts with the following (I think I have anonymised it- please let me know if I have left anything identifiable in it.)

    host prefilter.emailsecurity.trendmicro.eu [xxx.xx.xxx.xxx]
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<recipient email address>:
        554 5.7.1 <recipient email address t>: Recipient address rejected:
        ERS-QIL.

apologies if I have used the wrong terminology, this is a bit beyond what I understand with email - I'm getting a bit lost.

Unfortunately, we'd need the next few lines as well as they contain the reason your email is being rejected.

    > Recipient address rejected: ERS-QIL.<

The Trendmicro Email Reputation Services (ERS) is rejecting the incoming email because the IP address of the sending email server (NOT your home PC) is in the Quick Information List (QIL) as being a source of spam email.

It's rejected after RCPT TO, so it's most likely a per account, domain or address setting. IIWY I'd contact the individual by other means and mention it.
