Should I (or someone representing me) be present during survey?

I have a survey booked for a property I am buying. I live a few hundred miles away from the property so it isn't easy to just pop along for the day when the survey takes place.
The seller's estate agent will be present on the day, but should I try and have a family member go along too? Or is this really not necessary?
The seller won't be there as the house I am buying is currently their second home that they don't often use.

Not only unnecessary but would mark you out as being a bit odd! Your surveyor won’t want somebody breathing down their neck.1

Not only not necessary, but also I think not something the surveyor would want / tolerate.
You'll get their report which will tell you what they looked at and detail their findings according to the level of survey you've chosen, having a lay person shadowing them while they do their work doesn't add anything to the process.1 -
Thanks for the feedback. This has confirmed what I initially thought, but after reading a few 'buying a house' guides online, some suggested being present which threw me a bit.

Probably bought 20ish properties. NEVER been present at survey. (since 1970s)1

Good luck. And if there is any doubt at all about the floors, do have a damp and timber survey. I rue the day I didn't catch on to my seller's 'hint' that she'd overwatered a plant in the quite dark back bedroom
