Unfortunately this is the second time in a row we have received these coupons, we would need to spend £360 over 3 weeks for just 2 of us, it’s just totally inappropriate. If they were smaller we would use them and they would get our business, now it’s Aldi here we come!

Sometimes, loyalty schemes like these just backfire. I agree they are setting you "stretch" goals, but they are not being realistic. I've had the same (Morrisons), and even with the best will in the world would not be able get a single shop of the amount they need. Or the "Spend > X pounds every week for the next 5 weeks and get ..."

So I just ignore those I can't use, and carry on at Aldi/Lidl/ASDA ... sometimes they come back with a lower target. The algorithm is testing you. It's like a reverse auction ;)
Aldi seems to be the only one that doesn't offer an incentive scheme.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

    And long may it continue!

Don't give in Aldi, if you're reading this. Just keep doing good stuff at reasonable prices. Pretty please.
My husband told me to stop speaking in numbers, but I don't 1 2.

True, and it saves a lot of faff, and guarantees no loyalty-backfire outcomes.

I've editted my post to make it clearer that I was rejecting "Morrisons+inappropriate voucher" to use "Aldi/Lidl/ASDA without any voucher" :)

    My current coupons are:

    - 50 points for spending over £3 on cream,
    - £2.50 off for spending over £15 on BBQ fuel and charcoal (I don't have a BBQ!),
    - 50 points for spending over £3 on cooking sauces (I never buy these as I prefer to make my own),
    - A free bottle of Fairy Max washing up liquid (640ml).

Very occasionally I get double points coupons, but never £X off when you spend £Y coupons.

They are all the same when it comes to offering so-called incentives, the plan is to expose you to buying more and buying different (additional) once they can spot a trend.

For example Asda cashpot "milestones" for meat, fish, ready meals and toiletries are like water off a duck's back for me. The marketeers can see I am a f&v, dairy and bakery person already so why bother?
Waitrose is tending to have the opposite effect with us since they revamped their voucher scheme a while back. I’ve ‘lost’ the daily free newspaper and tend to get the same old vouchers week after week. If I do use two of the six that are offered I’ll either then get those same items offered again the following week or the four items I never selected will be repeated.

My friend has just told me that her husband has a £6 off £40 shop for Tesco so they are going to stock up on grocery items this evening before the voucher deadline.
He rarely shops there, so they are being rewarded. Regular shoppers don't need an incentive- I assume that's the marketing theory.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Yes, loyalty does not pay with these offers. I usually do a shop at Sainsbury's, then the following couple of weeks don't buy anything there. They then start sending me £X off or 500 nectar points when you spend £Y coupons. If I leave it another week, they reduce the required spend from say £40 to £30. I then use the coupon and start the cycle again!

Whats your normal average Tesco spend? I would expect if you are getting spend £120 coupons then you have spent at least £80 in a single transaction before with them?

We spend £20-40 usually at Tesco, occasionally £50 and get coupons for spend £60 get £9 or £6 off, so they are obviously pushing me to spend an extra £20 or so.

Therefore I wouldn't expect you to get the £120 coupons unless you normally spend within two-thirds of that.

You may be right as I think my mistake was to do a pre Christmas shop at Tesco before visiting my son and his family for Christmas. I did spend more than normal as it was a “one off”, so have been stuck with inappropriate coupons ever since! I won’t be doing that again! Definitely going to stick to Aldi from now on!
