Missing account on credit file

Options
Hi,

I’m really hoping someone can help me, I’ve had a HSBC current account since 2001 but for some reason it has never been reported to the credit reference agencies.

I have contacted checkmyfile and they have looked into this and have advised me that there is no record of that account with Experian, Equifax or Transunion and to get in contact with my bank.

I’ve been in contact with HSBC customer services and they have told me that they have been sharing my info and to get in contact with the credit reference agencies to check if there are any mistakes.

I have done this again and again checkmyfile have looked into it and have said no issues or mistakes and none of the three credit reference agencies hold info of my HSBC account and again to get in contact with HSBC.

it’s just been back and forth with HSBC. Can anyone give me any advice of what steps to take to get this resolved, I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

It's likely just too old. There were days before credit reference agencies existed as we know them today - and not all banks reported all accounts to all agencies even when they did. From what I've read - if it's one of these old accounts that was never reported, it never will be.

The terms and conditions that you agreed to in opening the account. Made no provision for the sharing of your personal data.

A pure current account (with no OD etc) is neither here not there with the CRAs, it has no impact on anything to do with credit applications so not having it there is largely moot. Provided you are not paying for any CRA nonsense like "boosts" etc for the fake score I would just let it go, or switch to another account for a switch bonus when there are offers which will be reported.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    Hello all,

Thank you for all your feedback.

It’s one of my longest held accounts and i read somewhere that CRA’s take into account how long someone has held bank account for. Reason why I was trying to get the bank to start reporting it.

am I incorrect in thinking long standing accounts help with credit scores in anyway?

No I don’t pay for boost, I just thought it would automatically be on my credit file.

Does this mean they can choose not to share?

The chances are as mentioned - when the account was opened there was no term that allowed them to share the data. So it's not them choosing not to share - it's likely because you didn't agree to them sharing as it wasn't something they did at the time anyway. They wouldn't have had a term 'We can share your data' if  they didn't share anyone's data with anyone. But that's a moot point as it's too old to retrospectively recorded on your CRA history. It's not something to worry about, and it's impact on not being there is negligible at best assuming all your other recorded credit history is well managed. If you need a current account that shows on your CRA's (I can't think why you'd NEED one) - you can open a new one fairly easily.
