Travel insurance for an 82y/o?

I'm enquiring on the behalf of a friend. He's 82 and he's fit and active, and he's planning on travelling to Canada to see his brother. While traveling he's hoping to spend several days in the US to visit friends there. Ideally he'd also like to make it a wider trip and take in Australia as well to make it a bigger trip.
He is active physically and mentally, has an all clear from the doctor. Is there anywhere he can get travel insurance that isn't extortionate? Or any insurance at all full stop?
He's reluctant to reduce the scope of the trip, but is prepared to make it Canada only if needs must.

85 year old parent has used Staysure.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I've use Avanti Insurance for travel with Pre-existing medical conditions. I'm not sure how they are with older travellers, but I would suggest checking them out.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Has he tried an insurance broker? Or if he is ex services ask an appropriate ex servicemans association?
    Or a comparison website?
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I'm not aware of pre-existing conditions or not, but I will pass Avanti onto him for sure, thanks.

He's not ex services. I don't think he has checked a comparison site actually, I shall suggest this to him. Thanks!

Tried them all this week for worldwide annual insurance  including usa for couple of pensioners with medical conditions . Shocked at prices when offered . Even broker was no better than comparison sights  . Resigned ourselves to paying staysure  2.5k pounds . Then last chance saloon we tried all clear insurance - 1.2k pounds . Not cheap but would recomend trying them .
