Return of a faulty second hand part

I purchased a part from a large used car parts supplier and it turned out to be faulty.
The part cost £600 and the supplier is trying to say that I'll incur a handling charge to return it.
As far as I'm aware this is not allowed. There's a letter on the Which website that you can send in response to that.
The part was second hand, but the implication was that it was working.
The part was fitted at my expense and to remove it will be at my expense. Am I able to claim back these costs as well from the supplier.
Thanks

Based on the single fact you have told us, that you have bought a used car part for £600, the only answer can be 'Maybe'.
- What is the part and who did you buy it from?
- Online purchase or bought in person?
- Why do you think it might be faulty?
- What are the seller's T&Cs for used parts? Do they give a guarantee?
- Do you deal at all in cars? £600 for a s/h part is quite hefty for a diyer.
- What testing did you do before and after fitting the part?
Be aware that dealers like PartsGateway are a bit like Amazon or eBay, they just introduce you to the actual seller.

Is this related to the other thread?

and the same question as there: consumer or business purchase?0 -
Hi To answer eskbanker, yes, it is related, it's me trying to fix the van.
To answer alderbank:
1. It's an inverter and I got it from Nippon Auto Parts
2. Purchased online with a credit card
3. It was fitted by a reputable garage and it's reporting error codes
4. Terms seem to try and exclude all electrical items and any costs incurred supplying faulty parts
5. Yes, expensive, but not many of these parts about
6. Couldn't be tested until fitted
Terms also say they will charge 20% handling charge and as far as I'm aware this isn't legal for faulty parts.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

Hello OP
Assuming yes means this was a business purchase unfortunately consumer rights won't apply and you'd have to look towards the Sale of Goods Act to see legislation would govern the sale beyond the part dealer's terms.

Hi,
Sorry I wasn't clear, yes, it was expensive but no it wasn't a business purchase, and I'm a consumer not a dealer or garage.
Thanks0 -
Can you clarify this statement?
"The part was second hand, but the implication was that it was working."
Was it specifically stated as working, not just implied- ie not fudging around language like 'untested' or 'was working when last used'.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
