If I cancel my BT Broadband service for a new provider will I still be able to access by BT Email account and therefore retain my BT Email address and access incoming emails as an external non-BT customer? Are there any other considerations? Looking forward to your advice.

Did the email address come with the broadband service in the first place? If so, then closing your broadband would mean the end of the email address - unless BT have an option for you to continue paying for the email service after.
Oh, it looks like there may be a free option for you - a bit of Googling reveals: https://www.bt.com/help/email/what-happens-to-my-email-address-when-my-bt-broadband-service-st0 -
When you stop being a BT Broadband customer your email remains accessible but only via webmail , by logging onto BT and looking , you can’t use an email client to send and receive emails , you can upgrade this basic email service so that you can use an email client , but its quite expensive.0

Looking forward to your advice.Get a Yahoo/Gmail/Outlook.com account and link it to your BT account. You can then pull them in now and keep anything you want to keep, and then if you do decide to move you can tell Fred, Velma, Daphne and Scooby that your new address is <whatever> @ <whatever>.com.0
