We had this issue some years back, with two children one going primary to secondary, one from pre-school to reception.
We found a smaller place to rent while waiting for the house situation to be finalised, with about half of our furniture left in storage with the removal co in the end.
It wasn't ideal. The older child started secondary in the correct school while we rented, as providentially there was a school bus route within reach. Younger child had to suffer preschool at one, 1 term reception where the rented house was and then a final move to a new primary when we finally completed the purchase. He survived despite a further change between infant and junior.
Most kids are very flexible thankfully especially if you can present it as a big adventure, rather than a massive problem for mum & dad (even when it is).

A very common mistake is to put too high a price on the house you are selling. This is almost certain to lead to many months of it not selling.  Sell you place cheap and fast and you may well get even when you buy somewhere cheaper too!

Anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

Spoke to the new school, in the first instance.

The deputy head was very sympathetic - as she had been in a similar situation with her own children.

The school agreed that my child would be allowed into the school building at 7:30am, when required. And then join the breakfast club when it started.

On other occasions, she went by minicab - a friend of a friend was a self-employed driver with a big silver Merc - which he usually used for airport pick ups.

On other occasions, she was dropped off at a classmate's house early in the morning - and they then went to school together.

My sister used to look after her friend's child  until it was time for her to go school.

Her parents dropped her off when they went to work.

Our kids never really went to school locally.

Even if there is no public transport near to you (same for us) we would be able to get our DD to the nearest station or, in earlier years, to the school bus which left very early in the morning.

Our son, I had to drive him. I'd make it work, whether it was taking advantage of breakfast clubs etc.   These days there's more flexible working allowed so it might help to alter hours slightly.

If it's the right school you will make sacrifices.  For you it sounds like it would be short term anyway.

Yeh we might have to. Fortunately, both our employers are pretty good for flexible working....
