House not moved and kids starting new school - what would you do?

Options
So, we're planning to move. Applied for new school for daughter (whos 10) and, at least, that all looks ok. BUT, this is september.

We're just thinking what on earth are we going to do if the house is not sold, not moved into old one? Anyone had this?

The new school is 45 mins from where we are now so, since we both work full time, that would be VERY difficult to take her.

Short term rental just looks SO expensive....

Anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

If you want to be in your new house before September, you should be pretty much on the market by now and having viewings on your property with a good idea of where you want your new house to be. Even then, it will be pushing it unless you are lucky. We've been selling since October and had a few issues - probably won't be moved before July or August at this rate.

Keep her at the current school until you move. If they have a place for in September, chances are they will have a place in October…or November.

What if the whole transaction is significantly delayed or falls through completely? Are you definitely moving to the new catchment area, come what may?

Is your house on market? Getting viewings? I’d ensure you have a place at a school in your current location, then once exchanged (or near to exchange)  you can pursue and enquire at the local authority for your new location and new school. Does feel you’ve jumped ahead a bit with the school placement.

Shes going into high school so wanted her to be in from the start.

Long story but theres a good reason why she can't go the school where we are as originally planned. Thats not going to be an option.

And really don't want her to be starting one new high school, then leaving a few months later to go to another.

Your only options seem to be to rent in the area while you sell or find a way of getting her there by taking her or a taxi.

Do you have a house on themarket?

    For how long?

    Any viewers or feedback?

Must have been tricky to get her in the new school when you clearly do not live in their catchment area ( and may never do ) ?
Are there no public transport options?

So far the new council seem pretty easy going about it all - there are spaces at the new school.

    Nah no public transport.

Our kids never really went to school locally.

Even if there is no public transport near to you (same for us) we would be able to get our DD to the nearest station or, in earlier years, to the school bus which left very early in the morning.

Our son, I had to drive him. I'd make it work, whether it was taking advantage of breakfast clubs etc.   These days there's more flexible working allowed so it might help to alter hours slightly.

If it's the right school you will make sacrifices.  For you it sounds like it would be short term anyway.

Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
