Advice on a mobile in place of a landline

So I've cancelled my landline with BT & as of tomorrow it'll be shut down.
It was quite handy to have though for whenever the reception wasn't great on the mobile as I'd just get whoever to call the landline in that scenario.
My wife & I are both on o2 so we'd be looking at something running on a different network.
Other than that, the phone itself:
1) Must be cheap
2) Must have exceptional battery life - no need for touch screens here. Think old school phones where the battery lasted ages. If the battery lasts around 1 week (with no use) then that's great.
I don't know if you can get SIMs where you don't need to load any money on or whether you can just stick £10 on like you used to years ago & then leave it until that runs out, if it ever runs out that is.
But yeah it'd be handy to just have a backup option running on a different network.

Why are you looking for another mobile network if you both have mobile phones on O2.
Provided the network and the phones you currently have support wifi calling then the mobile signal in the home does not matter as they would be using the wifi and broadband connection for all mobile service.0 -
To answer your question - for when the signal is poor.
Regards WiFi calling, I know nothing about it. Is it automatic when your phone is connected to your home WiFi or is it a setting you need to enable (& then becomes automatic?)
We'd be taking Galaxy S24+ and iPhone 13 (or 14, can't remember which one the wife has).0 -
