I'm not replacing my kitchen, I can't afford it as well as the bathroom. Now I live alone I hardly cook, I just microwave.  I had a very quick viewing during Covid, and had to laugh when I moved in.

I thought the cupboards were solid wood,  like the kitchen in my house.  First night I melted the bottom of the cupboard with the toaster.  It's MDF with a vinyl cover on.  Worktops are MDF with DC Fix plastic.

I will be taking the vinyl off, and painting the MDF with Frenchic paint.  I will choose another 'DC Fix' and renew the worktops.

Wherever you buy, do have a damp/timber survey.  I was caught out and had to spend £15K getting the floors here replaced.

We are about to buy from DIY Kitchens.  Much much cheaper than Wren, Bodensee, Benchmarx etc, but also much better quality. Had never heard of them but then read the Which report and they were very highly recommended.

Magnetbwanted £45k for our kitchen and utility,  DIYK will be £18k, and better quality.

We've used DIY kitchens and would second your recommendation. Solid carcasses instead of the  flat packs that most places offer, make a big difference.

They run a professional operation, with advice and suggestions on your planned layout if you use the free planner.

Don't underestimate how difficult a kitchen is to fit however. You will need to be prepared to muck in, be a very competent DIYer, or if you aren't you are going to make mistakes.

Alternatively you will need to have trades on hand to do it for you.

I found the fitter first (knew his work quality) and went with the company he suggested and generally worked with. This was Howdens who also provide ready made carcases (not flat pack) and offer a range of systems. They work with local fitters, and the result in our case was excellent. Costs for what we chose were quite reasonable.
