Claiming expenses due to a delayed flight - only partially accepted

Options
I flew Easyjet from Edinburgh to Birmingham. The flight was due to depart at 1900-2010 however it was delayed and left after midnight 0040-0136.

Due to the arrival time, I asked the Easyjet staff at the gates if I would be eligible to claim the night/morning in a hotel room as I wouldn’t be able to drive at that time and they said yes, just make the claim online. I had already booked and paid for car parking at the airport that would have expired so I had to pay an additional amount for that.

So I’ve made two claims - one for compensation and one for expenses - hotel room + additional car parking (£79 + £56).

Easyjet have accepted the compensation and paid out £220 already however they’ve said that they will only reimburse £8 for the parking with the comment “1 day parking”. Regarding the hotel - “As your flight was delayed we will not be able to reimburse your claim for hotel as we do not provide reimbursement for hotel on a delayed flight.”

I was wondering where do I stand on this? Should I make another expense claim or how should I contact Easyjet?

Do you have anything in writing that says they would reimburse or was this verbal?
my understanding of the regulations is that the expenses are for during the delay and liability stops when they land at the destination airport so expenses whilst delayed in Edinburgh (food etc) would be claimable but anything after landing at Birmingham not and would be either for your travel insurance or accept that the compensation element 'pays' for it.

    It was just verbal.

The ground staff (likely outsourced) shouldn’t have told you that you had a valid claim for a hotel stay - as you didn’t.  The airline’s obligation ends when you arrive at the scheduled point of arrival.

At least you have the £220 which covers that stay.
