  • I had a problem at Asda around May , well I bought it reduced as it had 2 days left before best before. Took a glass and it tasted foul, tasted like it had been left in sun for days.

Took it back next day and was refused a refund due to their policy saying milk and bread products can only be taken back on day of purchase and within 15 minutes of buying!

if its not fit for human consumption then the laws on your side
  • For the sake of 20p I would chuck it in the bin and think no more about it. If it was a regular occurance though I would bring it to the attention of the manager rather than getting third parties involved.

I was in Mr T yesterday, I picked up one of their 'fresh' pasta sauces - date was 14th December
There were four trays of eight tubs and every one was out of date either 14th or 18th of December, I told one of the staff she looked horrified :rotfl: Bet they're glad a customer was telling them and not some inspector slapping them with fines

Similar happened in Asda, told them also.
    The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

I guess that's one advantage of RFID when the more sophisticated versions are rolled out that the products can actually tell the store they're going out of date so there should be no excuse at all for expired products being left on shelves.

  • Hi Everyone

I would definitely say that you should not eat a yoghurt or any other food that has gone past it's Use By date. Any food will eventually display obvious signs of deterioration if kept for a long time past the date but bacteria may be developing even if stored at the correct temperature. Food past its sell by date can appear and taste normal but will still make you very ill if you eat it. Best Before dates are different, the food is still safe to eat within a reasonable time but there may be some deterioration in quality.

    Happy New Year

ive come across out of date goods in the supermarket and in the past pointed them out to staff

Did this once in Tescos. Found baked goods, a whole day out of date.

It was a four tier freestanding display.

I have never seen a display date checked so fast in my life!!

Turned out over half of the stock was out of date. Evidently somebody did not rotate dates.

Never seen this happen again since, everything is in date.

Somebody must have got a rocket up thier a.... for that!

I think the thing is here how big an issue it is.

If the item is just out of date and is just 20p, forget it. Will cost you more to take it back.

More exspensive item, talk to the helpdesk. Try and prove it by giving other info.

I would only go to the local agencies if there was a really big problem, eg out of date by weeks or months. Or the food is unfit for other reasons..

In the town where I live, somebody reffered a small shop to the local trading standards. Turned out that some of their food was well out of date. The dried food stuffs where crawling with bugs!!!!!!!

They got a big fine. :T

And i, on a personal level, have never brought a thing from that shop since, even when it changed hands. ;)

    Typical tesco attitude!!

I bought a loaf of bread in Sainsburys and realised whilst packing at the checkout that it was a week out of date.

When I raised this with the cashier I was swiftly ushered to the customer services desk and given £10 in cash, a refund of the cost of the bread and an in-date loaf!!
