The banking Hub I linked to. The local post office is far bigger, as it also houses local sorting office.Life in the slow lane1 -

I had mentioned this to our CEO years ago when banks were closing branches. While not when it gets down to one left that other banks share the facility. As it would be good for the brands & customer service.Rob5342 said:I do wonder who is calling for these hubs. Everything I've ever seen is people saying that other people need them, never anyone saying they need one themselves. I can't help feeling that the call for them is much.greater thaj the need.
But fell on deaf ears.
Now appears PO have stepped in to take the roll on. But with limited hours, rather than expanding it out to longer hours to make it a worthwhile service to the public.

So like most things the public want & get will end up being a half hearted effort & closed down to lack of use in a year or so.
Of course then public will be up in arms again 🤷♀️
Will they work, in the long run I think not. But that is down to the public to use a facility that is costing money to run. Like branches being closed due to lack of use, the same will follow with these.0 -
Cash is deminishing in use, but it will be around for many years. For decades, people have been saying cheques are on the way out. Their use is much lower than it once was, but they're still going and have even been modernised with image clearing and the ability to pay them in via a smartphone. Cash will be the same. We might not have many bank branches and the Banking Hubs might die a slow death, but there will still be ATMs and shops. A couple of the banks have cash arrangements with Paypoint so you can deposit/withdraw in newsagents etc - that will probably take over if/when the Post Office ceases to exist.[Deleted User] said:

Can you deposit cash at only certain paypoints? I wasn't aware of this scheme.TheBanker said:

So far as I know, only Monzo support PayPoint cash deposit - it's both chargeable (£1 a time) and very limited (£300 max deposit, no more than £1000 deposited in a 6 month period)[Deleted User] said:

In theory any PayPoint should allow you to deposit this way.
Other banks support PayPoint Cash Withdrawals (up to £50) - not all PayPoints participate though:

Understand the post was about banking hubs but quickly descended into a cashless society debate.
I remain concerned that cash is on the way out but remain re-assured that they tried to do away with cheques back in maybe 2012? Yet still they are here and see no signs of dissappearing soon - banks now let you scan them on a mobile - just send the payment electronically please grandma...
I think cash will be here in my lifetime at least. Cheques I hope not but a great example of resilience.1 -

I did my best to try to nip that in the bud on page one by highlighting that it isn't tenable to attempt to conflate branch closures with less access to cash, as they really are two separate issues, so it's unhelpful to shoehorn them together artificially!Scotjock said:Understand the post was about banking hubs but quickly descended into a cashless society debate.

So how will a cashless society function when your builder/ gardener/ handyman/ plumber asks for cash ?
We have some cafes in our area which accept cash only, no cards.
How is Harry down the pub supposed to operate when selling cheap air fryers.....he doesn't accept cards ?
You may think none of this applies to you but, there is a very vibrant cash only society that's everywhere !1
