They shouldn't be telling all and sundrie anything. You should tell them what you want, and other than telling you to insert your card, pop your PIN in they'll just get on with it.

I suppose you could pass a piece of paper with 'I'd like to withdraw £x please' and an envelope to the Post Office member of staff.
I know they shouldn't  but they do because they are shop staff not PO workers. Managing a  PO should come with some professional training.

It does for sub-postmasters, and Post Office expect all staff (whether crown, franchised or sub-postmastered) to be trained. You should complain if you receive poor service.

Well, l was commenting  on what lve seen rather than the service lve received  at the mentioned  premises.
Let's hope the banking hub, which is due to open locally, has a better basic service.

    Saw this yesterday.
Run by Post office & guess what shut on a Saturday, unlike the local post office. Which I bet will be closing down now the hub is there.

The Hub was recommended by LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, following the announcement of the closure of town’s last remaining bank branch.

Really annoying thing is NO ATM machine, given Halifax has closed & was the only ATM on high street.

I hope this isn't a tread for the future.
That's the issue which lve spoken about in my area when the bank closes the ATM goes too.

I do wonder who is calling for these hubs. Everything I've ever seen is people saying that other people need them, never anyone saying they need one themselves. I can't help feeling that the call for them is much.greater thaj the need.

It seems to be local politicians. Most of them seem to be supported by a local MP and bunch of councillors (it's usually an MP or the local council leader who performs the grand opening). Unless the town doesn't have a Post Office, I agree they are pretty pointless. Would be interested to know how many visitors they're getting.

Agree with the above contributions. I file it under the category of 'sounds like it might be useful until you look beyond the headline'.
  • Cash is the main ingredient in any black market and there are plenty of them in any town or city. Can't see cash disappearing any time soon ......try paying a drug dealer with your credit card and see how far you get !

I had mentioned this to our CEO years ago when banks were closing branches. While not when it gets down to one left that other banks share the facility. As it would be good for the brands & customer service.
    But fell on deaf ears.
Now appears PO have stepped in to take the roll on. But with limited hours, rather than expanding it out to longer hours to make it a worthwhile service to the public.

TBH, it is something that consumers have been asking for when last branch is shut down. To save the long treks required to get to a branch.
So like most things the public want & get will end up being a half hearted effort & closed down to lack of use in a year or so.
Of course then public will be up in arms again 🤷‍♀️

Will they work, in the long run I think not. But that is down to the public to use a facility that is costing money to run. Like branches being closed due to lack of use, the same will follow with these.
