I have bought a new laptop and need to connect it to my desktop.
I have got a Dynamode router and have managed to get the wireless sorted out(kind of) but when I plug in the cable to my modem for the wireless I can't connect to the internet on my desktop.
My modem is connected to my desktop by a USB cable not an Ethernet cable.Have I got the wrong router?
I am totally useless at this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated
I am waiting for a call back from the router people but with it being the holidays it might not be for a few days and this is driving me round the twist

I plugged in an ethernet cable from the modem into the router's wan bit and the supplied cable from the lan port on the router to the laptop. When I removed the lan one the wireless worked,I left the ethernet cable between the modem and the router and the wireless was working but I couldn't connect to the internet on my desktop
Does this make sense???He who smiles rather than rages is always

Right so you can connect to the laptop via the wireless but you cant connect to the desktop via the network cable, is that right? You can't con an honest man!0

Have you tried the obvious like switching off everything at the mains and then switching back on?You can't con an honest man!0

yes I have,I wondered if I had to change any settings in my desktop to make it compatible with the wirelessHe who smiles rather than rages is always

Shouldnt the desktop pc be connected to the router and not directly to the modem? You can't con an honest man!0

The desktop is connected by USB to the modem.Would I need to connect the desktop to the router by ethernet too?
Would that go in the LAN port.He who smiles rather than rages is always

Your Modem should be connected to the ROUTER and nothing else. The router should then be connected to both the DESKTOP and LAPTOP. it shouldnt matter how you connect to the router (wireless or wired)0

Erm modem connects to the router via ethernet on the WAN port as you have done, the computer connects via ethernet to the router on the lan port. You cannot connect the router to the modem ethernet port and then the pc to the usb port.
Power everything off, connect router to modem via ethernet, power up modem, wait for lights to settle, power up router, wait for lights to settle, power up the PC.0
