Yes they are, direct electric heating the water is the most expensive option. Even worse if on an Economy 7 tariff for storage heaters.wrf12345 said:Electric shower and on-demand electric hot water are not expensive options1 -
Having lived with both an electric shower and one run from a gas boiler in the space of the last twelve months, I can assure anyone who isn’t already sure that the pure luxury of being able to have a perfectly ordinary shower for pennies is huge. The gas option also allows for when washing hair for example, being able to turn the shower off while you shampoo, then back on again to rinse - saving water. (Often not a possible option with electric showers as the water can flow through scalding when it’s first turned back on) If choosing between the two, IMO definitely opt for the thermostatic mixer fed shower from a gas fired boiler. We used to time showers as as possible for our cheap rate periods - which was fine at the point in the year when that ran until 8am, but often far less pleasant when 7am was the cut off!

We have an unvented cylinder heated by economy 7 which gives the same instant hot water, granted there is a limit to it though. We had a family of four staying with us and found that 5 showers was the limit with our tank

HW tanks can be lossy - c1-2kWh per day even for a modern design.
One of the rasons many favour gas combi boilers.
Anyone know daily loss figures for energy store electric heat on demand systems ?0 -
Similar to a gas boiler then. Ours stores approx 15kWh, if it loses 1.5kWh, that’s 10% losses
