and ought to have questioned a spouse named "Trevor"
Only if they work in the UK.
If I give you my team mates names in Bangalore do you reckon you can split them by gender?0 -
One could argue that Tesco have a duty of care and ought to have questioned a spouse named "Trevor" 20 years his junior.
One could reply that it's none of Tesco's business how old one's partner is.
Tesco and other companies operate and quote on the info provided. If it's incorrect then it's not Tesco's fault. The only way to prove it's Tesco's fault is to listen to any phone recordings to find out what the OP stated.
However, the quote and policy were completed online. That being the case, i think the OP will have to pay the bill.

As I said one could argue and IMHO it is worth a try. If I were OP and felt I was not at fault I certainly would not simply roll over and pay up without a fight."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Whilst companies are often slagged off on here, they do sometimes surprise you with a positive result so no harm in trying. That said, it also helps to know the rights and wrongs so you can make the appropriate comments.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Possibly.
Despite what I've said in this thread, I'm not suggesting that the OP should simply pay up without at least trying to negotiate either a reduction of even the waiving of the additional premium.
I'm suggesting though that if the details supplied to the insurance company were online and not via phone then it would be difficult to lay the blame at the door of the insurance company.
