EE router

Have I read this correctly, that a router can perform better at 5gb than at 2.4?
And if so, how do I get into the router to check?

The 5GHz band is capable of delivering faster speeds to your device than the 2.4Ghz band provided the device you are using has a modern and fast WiFi adapter.
You cannot change any settings in the router to boost that band, just connect your devices to the 5Ghz SSID for fastest performance.
Due to Scotty's Laws, the 5Ghz band has less penetration through solid surfaces and range, so at greater distances from the router you may find the 2.4Ghz band provides a better connection.
You can log into the router and rename the bands so you can see which one you are connecting to, the details of how to do that will be on the back of the router and the EE website, make sure you use admin password and not the WiFi password.0 -

It depends on whether your laptop has a dual band WiFi adapter, not all do.
If both the 5 and 2.4 GHz bands have the same name (SSID) then it can be difficult to see which one a device connects to.
You can give the two bands different names in the router settings and then if your laptop can only "see" the 2.4Ghz band it is only capable of connecting to that.
I have never come across a laptop where individual bands can be switched on and off.0 -
Ok, thank you.
