Bidet Toilets

DO NOT READ IF EASILY OFFENDED !!

We are considering getting a Japanese smart Bidet toilet in our planned main wetroom/bathroom
I am unsure whether or how - they actually work
We can't exactly go to a showroom and ask to try one
Has anyone actually got one - do they actually clean you properly - because the spray does appear to be insufficient as far as cleaning a bu m - and the alternative doesn't appeal (hands on) !!

Finding one that meets the WRAS requirements is a tall, and typically expensive order.

My wife likes the one I fitted.

It doesn't cope with my hairy rear end clankers.  So toilet paper is still needed.  Not that I am usually allowed to use her toilet.  So my user technique may be wrong.

Thanks - could you please explain how the nozzle has enough power to clean you - without being too high pressure to spray the rest of the bathroom ?

One of the questions I've always wanted to know the answer to but have been afraid to ask! I'm with Rodders, I'd need a pressure washer to be effective.

Errm your posterior and other bits block the water from escaping the loo.  Most have a sensor that needs covering; and if daft enough to do so with a hand, say, then the water will be shot out !

Look at any of the many you tube and maker videos ... One example here https://www.biobidet.co.uk/ has an interactive demo of the operation of that wras approved add on seat device.

Haven't tried a smart one but have used a hand held hose in a wayside garage in the mountains in Borneo and it was excellent. Refreshing and effective and nice to feel so clean.
It was air temp 29c. I wouldn't want one in the UK winter.

Does the smart version use warmed water?

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Following a visit to Japan I got one and I think it's totally amazing.

In my previous house I had a standard bidet but this thing is FAR more effective.

It was £400. Washloo.co.uk it needs a mains and water supply of course.

The key is that the spray is very well targeted and effective - it goes for two minutes and I can assure you you end up cleaner than any other way I have experienced.

I really would wholeheartedly recommend them and I think they should be far more in use in this country. In Japan if you go to their equivalent of Curry's there'll be a whole aisle devoted to them

We have a bidet attachment that I picked up from an Amazon returns bin in a charity shop for £3 - they cost about £30-35 new, though of course they do also have to be fitted so there'll be an additional cost there. It's a pretty simple job though - just needs to be plumbed into the pipe that feeds into the cistern.

I was a bit doubtful about it being cold only, but actually it's fine, not uncomfortable at all, and I absolutely love it! Ours has plenty of power (though I suppose it will be dependent on water pressure) - DO NOT turn it on when you're not sitting on the loo, or it'll spray at least 6 feet across the room!

I still use loo paper for an initial wipe and then to dry off afterwards, but considerably less than before we got it.
  • We have a Toto washlet. It doesnt work unless you are sat on the seat. Water pressure can be increased and is quite powerful (and shocking at first lol). You still need to use toilet paper to some extent.  The heated seat & water are a dream though 😁
