Depends on whether your parents are commercial landlords.
They normally collect information from you and it goes to a Decision Maker. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
That won't be the reason because you don't actually live with them. It's not impossible to claim help for the rent when renting from family members but you need to show that you are renting on a commercial basis. You would also need to provide proof of liability to pay rent, such as a tenancy agreement.kimi1977 said:I rent a place my parents own , so they won't allow it. It's classed as living with family when I live alone
The question is would your parents evict you if you didn't pay your rent? If they wouldn't then it's doubtful whether it would be possible to claim for help with the rent. It covers different people in different ways - for instance under UC you can have over £16K in capital, but under UC you cant. The Transition Period would in this instance give you a years UC and then after the year if you still had £16K or demand to have spent it wrongly then your claim will stop.kimi1977 said:
Thanks Pete, the transition protection is the part I don't understandpeteuk said:First thing to remember is a calculator wont take into account any transition protection you may have.
UC is built up of different parts so double check your inputted values, check your breakdown if it gives one. Use another calculator to check/compare the results.
Look at your deductions…
For example is the protection keeping it the same value or is it just foggy speak and the 55p in £1 limit applies even with protection cover
Other believe it would automatically give you the same payment, like for like, but it doesnt always and so its really important to check you statement which will give you a breakdown of the payment. A benefit calculator may do this for you (to there figures) however as hucksters says until the end of your first assessment period it wont be clear.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

There have been people on tax credits with over £1 million in properties they rent out. And some with over £500k in available savings.
Which is part of the reason Government are moving people over to Universal Credit, which will save many billions over the coming years.
But that is getting into the debate. For the OP, they need to be patient and wait for the first UC statement to be issued. And if they then believe that the amount of payment is incorrect, they can come back to this thread and provide all of the details, so people can offer their thoughts. The comments I post are personal opinion. Hi, just to update, I now have my final statement - as above being patient does indeed helphuckster said:There have been people on tax credits with over £1 million in properties they rent out. And some with over £500k in available savings.

Just to reassure people who may be in the same position , not to panic until you receive the final statement (the job centre said I would receive nothing as my entitlement would be wiped by my income amount, this is not true)
Standard allowance £368.74
Transitional protection £565.32
Your total take-home pay for this period is £730.45
Total deductions minus ‑ £417.12
Your total payment for this month is £516.94
