There was also quite a recent case where a vehicle owner was given an MOT advisory for worn tyres.

      Don't ignore them forever.

OK Have checked the tyres - front worn to 4mm at worst - so will look at replacing whole lot (I prefer a matched set)
    possibly TOYO PROXES COMFORT
These appear to be a good compromise between cost / wet grip / noise ??
In fact - wet grip better than present Continentals at 2/3 cost !

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

If they're 4mm across the full width, and no cracking visible, I'd put them off a bit yet. Don't wait until the legal limit of 1.6mm, but certainly until 2-3mm, or until winter approaches (whichever's sooner).

Bear in mind the ratings are self-certified, and don't place TOO much emphasis on them.
Do you need XL load rating? If not, the Avons. 83 load rating will always tend towards a softer ride than 87XL.
If you don't know, look at the tyre pressure sticker. Doesn't matter if it's non-standard size, it's the weight rating we're interested in here.
If you can't find that, look at your VIN plate. There's four weight figures on it.
Top is GVW, the maximum laden weight for the vehicle itself.
Next is GTW, the maximum laden weight for vehicle plus trailer.
Next two are marked 1 and 2 - they're the first and second axles max weight. Divide the higher of those by two, and that's the minimum tyre load weight. 83 is 487kg, so 974kg axle weight. 87 is 545kg, so 1090kg axle.

Where in the country are you? If you're in a cooler or wetter rural area, I'd strongly suggest looking at all-season rather than summer tyres. Not many 83 rated choices, but the
Uniroyal or Vredestein 87-rated will both be excellent value.

Whatever you do, KEEP AN EYE ON THEM REGULARLY. Same as fluids, wipers, lights... Basic responsible car maintenance!

My experience of Toyo Proxes was that I had a lot of tire wall failures. I have never had tire wall failures with any other brand, but when I had both cars on Toyos they were a frequent problem.

    Really ? That's concerning
So you stuck with Toyos despite having frequent sidewall failures ?
Anyone else found the same ??
from what I understand - TOYO had problems with sidewall failures in certain tyres in USA in  2011/2012 which will not affect tyres now ?
