Easy Access Cash ISA with variable rate and fixed bonus rate

If I open an Easy Access cash ISA that has a variable rate and a fixed bonus rate for a year am I right in assuming that the variable rate can still change over the course of the year and the fixed bonus rate is static.
There are a few of these on Money Savings Expert so wondered if a fixed rate at a lower rate is the better option if I don’t need access.
Thanks for any clarity.

You're right in your interpretation of what the wording means, but as to whether a lower fix is better, that's just guesswork really, and depends on what (variable) rates do over the term of the account!1
