Car insurance premiums going through the roof - why?

Driving standards are definately falling. From parking, to complete lack of knowledge of the Highway Code, to aggressive tailgating, to driving directly at some one on the wrong side of the road. There's no shortage of ignorant people on the roads. If increased insurance costs are the way to change bad habits I'm all for it. Run a sensible car and drive carefully.

The fund in NZ covers all accidents, RTAs, someone falling off a ladder, injury as a manhole cover was missing etc. There is a simplicity to the matter when you strip it back to covering actual losses rather than pain and remove the burden having having to prove liability etcWhat_time_is_it said:Irrespective of fault seems like a crazy system to me. I can't stand reckless drivers. F**k 'em!It's been around for a long time, it was already long established when I moved there in 1987 (before returning to the UK a few years later).0 -
It's more complex than that... cars are getting faster and bigger but roads/parking spaces aren't getting bigger etc. It's less that driving standards are falling but the required standard is getting higher and we probably aren't improving at the same rate.Hoenir said:Driving standards are definately falling.
Is it any surprise that one of these minis is easier to get in a tight space than the other?0 -
Any comment on spelling standards?Hoenir said:Driving standards are definately falling. My anecdotal experience comfirms your view that driving standards are dropping, but with the increasing number of safety features being built into cars, is that resulting in more accidents/claims?0
