    How does that work?

Won't my sister and I have to be face-face with the verifier (ie. the legal representative) while he examine our passports?

Then he has to write the country of issue and passport numbers on the ID1  form , plus sign on the back of our passport photos and staple them to the form. He/she then has to tick a box to confirm he doesn't know us and sign the form.  In my opinion £30-59  seems an appropriate charge for their time but £200 is highway robbery.

Is this the company you are talking about?

    ID1 form Verification for £59 | Online ID1 Solicitors (id5.co.uk)

Yup that's one of them, there's also one based in Hull. They ask you to have your documents ready. Typically, that is a proof of address (bank statement, utility bill, DWP letter, council tax bill or similar) and proof of identity (photo driving licence, passport). They then do a Zoom call, ask you to hold the documents up and verify them. They then ask you to look into the camera and screenshot this and certify this. These would then be sent to you with a completed ID2 form I believe. Its certainly one way of doing it and has been allowed since the pandemic.
Just to say that I finally found a local solicitor who would assist for £5 per form , so it cost me £10 in total  vs the £200 charge from a notary.  It was only by pure luck that I got that result because it was the same solicitor that was going to charge my parents £600 each for a codicil to their 'will' (that was their charge 10 years ago which we decided against )  so I never expected the same firm to charge such a small figure.  I just sent an email advising them that it would take 10 mins of their time and they gave me a surprisingly low quote.

Just to clarify when you have your ID verified for HM Land Registry purposes remotely (i.e. over Zoom) an ID1 Form will need to be drafted (usually by the solicitor verifying the identity) as well as an ID5 Form (not an ID2 Form).  The ID1 Form is signed by the individual whose identity is being verified, while the legal representative signs the ID5 Form. The full colour screenshot is then appended to the forms.
  • I'm going down the ID5 route via a zoom call.  I have several transfers to do and wonder if i can do just one !D1 and !D5 for all of them rather than multiple ID forms and ID fees
