I'm a current individual premium Spotify subscriber. I just bought the £99 Amazon gift card. I tried to redeem it on my Spotify account and Spotify blocked the redemption. Stating I can't combine my current subscription with the premium code.
Interesting! I've done the same. My premium sub ends this time next month, I'm hoping post-expiry I can apply the gift card without any trouble.

I guess if it comes to it I'll set up a new account and lose access to my playlists etc.
Same here. Very annoying! It doesn't state this anywhere on the giftcard. Cannot be redeemed for Family or Student but no mention of Individual Premium accounts.

Right, sorted it. You do need to cancel your existing subscription and then apply the gift card. I found this out from Spotify via Chat and they did it for me.
  • I was beginning to panic, but relaxed somewhat when I saw this thread! I had to cancel my Spotify Premium sub and then I was able to apply the £99 gift card.

There's still a 'problem' though: My plan still says it's due to revert to the free plan on May 1st. If I click renew my Premium sub under 'Manage my plan' my credit card will start to be charged again on Jan 7th 2025, meaning I'm only getting around 8 months from the gift card, so in effect I'm not making any saving at all.
  • Oops if I could edit my last post I would . I misread the May 1st date... it does say 2025 not 2024... phew!
  • I bought a spotify gift card off amazon, but the code was impossible to read as the cover was stuck down that hard it ripped up the code. Looking at the reviews many others had the same fate. I'd stay away from buying them off amazon at the very least, as they have a no returns policy on gift cards - I had to contact support directly and luckily got a refund.
  • Spotify users who also use YouTube should consider YouTube Premium. I've just made the switch and for £12.99 per month I get YouTube with no ads plus free access to YouTube Music. I have found YTM to be just as good as Spotify and for the extra £1 per month I get YouTube completely free from adverts, which believe me is well worth £1.

I just bought the annual gift card off Amazon UK, received the code by email about five minutes later, entered it into the redeem page on the Spotify website and it accepted it fine, pushing my "next payment" date on from 26 May this year to 26 May next year.  I did not have to cancel my current payment details at all.  Quite pleased: £99 for a year rather than £144 (£11.99 x 12).

Following Martin’s weekly email I went in and changed my Spotify account to basic - removing audiobooks. I then bought a gift card from Curry’s but it wouldn’t work. After 45 minutes of ‘chat’ (I HATE CHAT) with a Spotify adviser she eventually managed to apply my code but said that I had to revert back to Premium. I thought the support was really poor - but then ‘chat’ always takes far too long!
  • Took advice this week and switched from Spotify Premium monthly subscription to annual basic plan with Premium benefits but no audiobooks (which I knew nothing about anyway - I use Kindle). It took 2 and a half hours with Currys and Spotify online support before Currys digital download key was accepted on my Spotify account! An hour of this was wasted on Currys who wouldn't help in the the end because it was a digital product purchase (should have gone straight to Spotify to begin with). Success eventually after repeatedly following the same instructions with no joy. £99 well spent, but what a palaver! I need a lie down after that.
