In my defence, the new account carries a message which says

'Either transfer money from another Post Office Savings account or set up your deposit via standing order from your linked account. Any regular deposits must come from your linked account.'

Hence why I expected to be able to do just that.

Which PO account are you trying to transfer funds from?

I don't have any post office accounts but, in the light of the Horizon scandal, I absolutely don't want any account or travel insurance with them!

As pointed out elsewhere, Post Office savings products are actually Bank of Ireland ones that just use the PO name.

Interesting that the banner at the top of the PO Savings page states:
For further information about the Horizon IT Scandal, please visit our corporate website
in that on the one hand it's refreshing to see them volunteer the word 'scandal' rather than dressing it up in some more mealy-mouthed PR-speak, but on the other hand characterising it as an 'IT scandal' misses the point, given the scandal primarily being the (in)actions of the PO management rather than the underlying software and/or system support flaws....
  • I opened the online saver a couple of days ago. Put my nominated account as Chase, deposited £10 (which I always do to ensure everything works). Got an email saying they don’t recognised the bank. I changed my nominated account to Nationwide & again deposited £10. Nothing went into the account and when I checked both my bank accounts this morning both £10’s had been refunded.
After a 20 min hold on the phone, I closed the account. I need complete faith that my money is safe.
Just be aware that this is not a great set up.

What does it mean exactly when they say: “Post Office Online Saver is provided by Bank of Ireland UK” ?

You are basically depositing money with the bank of Ireland but they have put a post office sticker on all communications etc.

Umm. Ye-es. So who is responsible for the unsatisfactory customer support? Post Office? Bank of Ireland? Or both of them unable to work together perhaps?  A marriage not made in Heaven?
