Switching from T-mobile to O2 SIM only in stages?

Hi --

I have a current phone with T-Mobile which is out of contract. I'm thinking of switching to O2 Simplicity - as for 25 pounds I would get 600 free minutes (and 'unlimited' - i.e 2000 minutes - to O2 mobiles, which I would use at the moment). My current T-mobile service costs on average a lot more than 25 per month - and i'm using far less than 600 minutes.

Does anyone have the O2 contract and care to comment on how it is for them?

Also, is their 'minimum cancellation period' their minimum contract length (aka 30 days) - or does that only refer to the initial period of cancellation after buying the contract?

Finally, is it possible to port my old number after trying the contract for a bit rather than straight away?
