Car Insurance Claim Made Void

My car was car jacked while my son drove the car. The police recovered it and impounded it for 2 months while investigating the incident.
The car was released but my insurance company wasted time and the costs increased until a couple of days before it was going to be destroyed they told me it was my responsibility. I recovered it to my house at a cost of £952.
The insurance company after weeks and a complaint interviewed my son and then on the 8th week of the complain voided my insurance claim stating it was not legally mine.
Heres the problem, I bought the car new off the showroom in Sept 2018, I had 3 previous new cars since 2009, they have always been on finance and in my name. The V5C is in my name, the MOT is in my name, the Road TAX is in my name and the insurance is in my name with my son as a named driver. The car is legally my car. They stated it was my son's.
I have appealled against their underwriters decision and spoken to a solicitors. I have also read up on it and I have found there is no precedent to say the car is my son because so much evidence says it's mine.
They now have my car in a storage facility and want to destroy it and I have told the storage personnel to not to and return it to me.
I have written many emails to the insurance company, my finance and the storage people, and no one wants to discuss it with me.
I am frustrated and confused.

    Given the situation.

Who drives the car the most?
Do you own & insure any other cars?

Have you made a formal complaint to your insurer?
The route is to make a formal complaint and then go to the ombudsman.

what exactly have the storage company said?
I would write (recorded delivery) or if local visit and make it clear you'll hold them liable if they destroy YOUR car.

I assume the believe the policy is fronted.
did you buy the car as a gift to your son?

also for context what car is it? that could be another reason if its clearly not a car the father would be buying
      • are they voiding the policy?
    • is there any damage to the car?

I suspect that they believe that your son was the primary driver and not you, based on his answers to the questions asked (this is the "fronted" mentioned above).

Who drove the car most, you or your son? Did he use the car to commute, or for anything work related?

The car is a Nissan Pulsar. My son did not pass until Jan 2022. I bought the car in Sept 2018. I do have another car but that was used as a second car and my son is not insured on that car as a it was too expensive and not worth it.

He used it for leisure time see friends that's why he was on the insurance. I used it for work. Then I bought the Jaguar in Aug 2023 and used that more than the Nissan

Can you answer the questions re:

Have you formally complained to your insurer?
Have you gone to the ombudsman?
Have you advised the storage people (in a manner they can't dispute receiving) that you'll hold them liable for destroying your car?

I suspect that, together with a combination of the answers that your son gave give a strong indication to the insurer that he was the primary driver of the Nissan, meaning the insurance was fronted and the policy was therefore invalid.
