CAF GAYE - refund on payment in error?
I recently, in error, requested my work to deduct 4.7k from my salary and move it to a CAF GAYE account. I've not realised my mistake but CAF advise there are strictly no refunds due to a HMRC restriction.
This is a big sum of money to me that I cannot afford to lose. Therefore just wondering if anyone has experience of speaking to HMRC and getting an exception arranged?
Thanks

Unfortunately this is going to be a very expensive learning curve. HMRC are not going to change the rules and introduce a massive complexity into the system for one person. The rules are simply that a payroll giving gift cannot be refunded. It is up to you to ensure you submit the correct amounts.

You'll just have to accept your mistake and in some small way be thankful it is going to charity.
The only consolation is that you can claim charitable donations on your tax return.0
