Used car buying advice (from dealer) warranty
Hi
helping a relative (new driver) to buy their new car.
We visited Evans Halshaw saw a car.
1. The test drive we were asked to sign a £500 excess - is this the norm for main dealers?
2. Told there is a 3 months warranty but that only covers a max of £500 per claim over the 3 months. I asked if we have rights under the Consumer Rights Act and the saleman said he never heard of it and the E/H Terms take precedence (he was a bit ignorant when I asked if I could read the T&Cs he would not let me). Instead said we need to buy a warranty for £895! Hence we walked away.
I noticed Lookers only offer a 30 day warranty.
With my moneysaving hat on I like to get the best deal for my young relative. Why are main dealers not adhering the Consumer Rights Act.
Any advice most appreciated re. consumer rights and warranty.

"With my moneysaving hat on I like to get the best deal for my young relative. Why are main dealers not adhering the Consumer Rights Act."- they lie to get a sale. Not called main stealers for nothing.1

You can't contract away your statutory rights - CRA would take precedence over anything you agree with EH, but you may need to fight them a bit for it as they don't have a great reputation.

Most if not all extended warranty’s are not worth the paper it’s printed on.
I have kept up my warranty with Peugeot, direct with them.
They have done the work.
But it a hard fight.
Washer pipe from washer pump split, did not know it was the pipe.
Took to Peugeot, asked for them to fix under warranty, and mot the car as was a mot failure.
They lied and said blocked jets, this is not covered. They said worked enough to pass mot.
A complete lie on both accounts.
Washer fluid did not reach the screen.
No repair and a bent mot from a main dealer.
My local mechanic who I’ve known for over 25 year, took it in and found the split pipe in under 3 minutes.
Back to dealer and forced them to fix it.
Next was an emissions fault with adblue.
No Peugeot dealer local could fit me in for a scan let alone a fix for 6-8 weeks in August last year.
I called all around the country, had to drive 65 miles to Littlehampton who got me in 2 days later.
Then back 3 days later for adblue tank replacement and reprogramming.
This went a bit wrong as dealer network went down and could not reprogram it.
So a third 130 mile round trip, agh.
I would only buy a main dealer warranty, or a Kia, Toyota etc that has warranty left on the car.
