Microsoft has made life complex by renaming Hotmail to Outlook... previously it was clearer because Outlook was an application to connect to any email server and Hotmail was their all in one solution which gave you an @hotmail.com email address.
Personally, webmail is a real pain but then I tend to work with half a dozen open browser windows and each has a dozen open tabs so finding my email in that lot is a pain -v- just cmd+tab to cycle to my email client0 -

Mozilla Thunderbird and New Outlook are currently pinned to my bottom taskbar. To access them I have to leave Microsoft Edge and click on Thunderbird or Outlook.
I haven't been able to work out how to get New Outlook and Thunderbird as a Edge tab.0 -
Edge is a web browser so you wouldn't get Thunderbird as a webbrowser tab as it's an application not a website.
Outlook you should be able to access via outlook.com and then have that as a tab... as mentioned previously its confused by MS' naming strategy0 -
