Solicitors - Mis-sold car finance

Hi

I really need your help and worried now about who I can trust and need legal advice urgently.

We had a cold-caller in 2022 who said we were mis -sold car finance and they can help us claim compensation.

I did something completely out of character for me after being under a lot of stress and feeling vulnerable at the time. I said ok.

It was in my husband’s name but I deal with everything so all the information came to me as authorised by my husband and he just signed!

We heard nothing for years then another solicitor got in touch but I thought it was the same one so my husband signed through docusign.

Then we had another third party sending me a docusign every single day saying my original solicitor’s are unable to process my claim so they have taken this on. The email sounded genuine but they were harassing me so much that I phoned my original solicitors who told me that they are still acting for me and I breached my contract by going with another solicitor and also if I cancel I have breached my contract.

These emails were saying that my solicitors are unable to do it. We became very scared so pulled the plug on the whole lot.  In which case the solicitors have said we owe them £6000.00 but my argument is that somehow our details have got passed on to the third party and the email states that it has come from our original solicitors- it was so convincing.

We then noticed because I printed the papers out for Citizens Advice that my husband’s name is misspelt but the signature has come up with his whole name in a digital format and not his actual signature.  We didn’t actually notice until we printed the emails on paper as it’s hard to see on the phone.

I sent them all my husband’s ID passport, Council Tax etc and obviously his name is spelt correctly and so are the early emails. I presume someone in their office has misspelt his name on docusign and he had just pressed the button to sign without noticing and now they are trying to say the signature is forged and are not taking any responsibility for passing on our details to a third party.

At work I’ve learned a lot about GDPR - has this happened?

Hope you can help, we haven’t slept for days. We are just a couple in our 40’s with a young family, trying to work hard to make ends meet and we really don’t need this worry which all started by a random man phoning me.
