Problem paying my HSBC credit card

as i said in my other reply i do suspect a 'wetware' issue for the OP rather than the banks at faultpenners324 said:
Sounds like a payment set up error.tenko said:Thanks for the feedback, I have tried everything in the HSBC app to no avail and they suggested that I pay from my other account using the sort code and account number they provided which should work, the problem now is that both Chase and NatWest keep blocking the payment and their fraud team contact me. I have explained the situation until I am blue in the face and answered all their security questions but still no joy, they sound as if they are reading from a script and common sense does not apply. The last guy I spoke to said to use my NatWest app, I explained that for the amount involved I had to use online banking, but because I have a new Mac they would not trust it and declined the transaction. Regarding paying via cheque I could do that but it is the twenty-first century and the payment is due by the 25th. hopefully I will speak to someone sensible in branch tomorrow.0 -
IIRC the OP was not trying to pay from an HSBC current account (they had closed their HSBC current account). They were attempting to pay to the HSBC credit card account from a current account held elsewhere.EnPointe said:

i have no issues paying either the direct debit or an additional payment by transfer from my HSBC current account to my Virgin Money Credit card , but i log in to both accounts regualrly from my devices
Thus transferring from an HSBC current account wasn't possible for the OP - and they didn't want to pay Virgin (but I guess you weren't suggesting that they did: it was just an example of your being able to pay to a credit card account from HSBC).2 -
The only "wetware" issue this OP has had recently was when I had my prostate removed.EnPointe said:

I was not trying to pay from a HSBC current account as I no longer had one, I was trying to pay my HSBC credit card from an external bank.
When I went into the local branch of NatWest I did the exact same transaction on THEIR computer without any issues.
I have no issue with banks trying to safeguard customers from scams but when you confirm to them it is you making the transaction and complete all of their security questions it becomes very frustrating.1 -
Yes, I found it strange that they said "they would not trust it" (your new Mac). Sometimes when I log in, admitedly from a laptop I have used for years, some banks don't recognise it (perhaps following an upgrade of some kind or different ISP) but I have then been taken through other security steps and been able to confirm online that it was a trusted piece of hardware. It then works fine.tenko said:

I suspect it was all of the transferring money around to pay the credit card off, and the express nature of which you wanted to do the transaction that would have raised the hackles of the bank. The in-branch systems have little problems as they'll have completed all the relevant verification in the branch before executing the payment.tenko said:

I've never had any issues with paying off my HSBC credit card, either using cash in an HSBC branch, or paying it online in the HSBC internet banking or via their own cash machines. I have credit cards with other banks and pay them fine too from my HSBC account without issue. The bank details you need to remit the payment to are printed somewhere on the statement, and you'd typically use your credit card number as the reference.1 -
Just got an HSBC credit card recently and cannot believe how difficult they make it to pay-off the card from a non-HSBC current account. Yes, banks will promote their own accounts but this feels more like coercion. I sympathise completely with the original poster.
Still waiting for my own direct debit paperwork to be processed (although, reading other comments, that may turn into an epic struggle). In the meantime, I finally worked out how to pay-in directly from my external bank account ... but even that required heavy cross-referencing to find the correct HSBC credentials. It shouldn't be this way in the 21st Century.

Set up a payee in your internet banking (of the bank you want to pay from) using the HSBC pay-to details on the reverse of your HSBC credit card statement, with the reference field of your 16 digit HSBC credit card number.
I can't speak for the DD aspect as I don't pay any of my credit cards via direct debit, I just make a full payment a day or so before. Takes seconds once set up, and then for future payments I just log on and pay.2 -
Could you do a balance transfer via another credit card? Not ideal but you want it paid off.
other than that I’d write a cheque and send to them with a letter.0 -
Payment details are on the back of your paper statement/PDF statement; like pretty much every other credit provider I've encountered.berling said:Just got an HSBC credit card recently and cannot believe how difficult they make it to pay-off the card from a non-HSBC current account. They do seem to have multiple credit card clearing accounts (for no apparent reason) whilst mostly card issuers have only one or a few options but regardless your details will be clearly noted on the monthly statement.1 -
I don't like the HSBC set up for payment.
Most cards I pay via debit card, the cards payment is shown straight way with thanks for payment, When I paid the HSBC via bank transfer it didn't show as paid till the next day.
