First Anniversary First Post

MOT is booked for Tuesday, just doing some quick checks and spotted these small holes on the sidewall of front drivers side tyre. Initial googling suggests might be an advisory, what do you guys think? I will not drive apart from to the MOT itself to avoid making this worse. Earliest date to replace isn't till mid next week unfortunately.

Provided that you can't see any tyre cords even if you open up the cut with a flat lollipop stick, your finger nail or something, then it is a pass.

What caused it, are your tyres old, the year of manufacture is marked on the side of the tyre.

How much tread is on them?
As where it wraps round took quite well worn.

Yep, they certainly don't look long for this world in any case. Cracks between the tread blocks, badly worn tread.

Thanks for the replies all, thats reassuring for the MOT next week.

Car bought 2 years ago and both front tyres as sold then circa 40k miles, now almost 60k miles. I suspect the tracking needs doing as the left hand passenger side front is much less worn than the drivers side... appears the dealer sold the car with 2 different tyres on the front which I didn't realise at the time. Will replace both with like after the MOT.

I would second checking the tread depth on those before the test.

Why don't you replace them before the MOT to save a fail or advisory?
One of the things I look for when buying a used car,  advisories or fails for tyres says to me the owner spent as little on the
car as possible so not a well looked after vehicle.

So do I. Was looking at a 10 year old "one owner, full service history" VW recently. The MOT history was shocking, from 4 years old it was the same, fail/fix/pass with advisories. The seller sent me copies of the "full service history" and it was just a load of bills for tyres etc showing they just did reactionary maintenance.

I'd accept the odd thing but if people don't even bother investing in the four bits of rubber that touch the road about the same area as the palms of your hands then what hope is there they ever bothered with annual oil/filter changes etc.
