Apologies for basic question but reading on welsh water i still not sure how billing works at the start of water meter install.
I know every 6 months readings are checked and then you are billed.
My water meter is being installed today, do I stay on my non measured for another 6 months then I pay monthly measured? Or do they change my direct debit to a estimate then adjust it in 6 months?

I was rebilled up to the date of instal - a substantial credit.
New DD started from instal and meter read and DD adjusted on the 6 month anniversary.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
They will recalculate your bill at the unmeasured rate until the date of the water meter installation. They will calculate the standing charges in advance at the metered rate up to the end of the billing period. Then when you reach the end of the billing periond they will calculate the usage charges in arrears, and the next period's standing charges in advance.Method of payment doesn't really come into it. Water is my last bastion of "pay on receipt of bill". I pay them half-yearly when they send a bill. The incentive to pay by direct debit has never attracted me.0

Old git living on own, two baths a week. I attach six-month metred bill, Am I paying less than an unmetered supply ?

It is very unlikely that you would be allowed to go onto an unmetered supply now and with your usage I would suspect that an assessed charge would be 50-100% higher than your metered billing and on rateable billing even in the cheapest property you would probably be paying at least four times your current costs, potentially higher if in a bigger property.lib21by said:Old git living on own, two baths a week. when I moved in to this place (Oct 2024) Severn Trent billed me £260 for 6 months usage (from then, till now)
I phoned up, requested to be put onto a meter (which is already installed in a 24 inch deep narrow pot hole outside on the pavement). They credited me with exactly what they had billed me (or rather un-billed me), and then have just sent me my new bill for the past 6 months (which has turned out to be £125)0
