Misleading or unhelpful energy related adverts...

We have long grumbled on here about the "Einstein" smart metering adverts which originally caused so many people to believe that their IHD was the smart meter. Those have at least improved to a degree now, with better use of language, but it started me wondering about whether there were other ads out there which peoplehave picked up on which are also in their view problematic. And then while I was wondering...
...Along came the new British Gas radio ad - two people having a conversation about "how confusing and impossible to understand" the price cap is - cue the British gas voice coming in to reassuringly say it's fine, there's no need to try to understand any of it because their new fix is below the April pricing anyway... Grrrr!
Come on then - anyone got any more?!

We don't watch adverts, rarely watch live TV for that very reason.
Glad we can give Einstein and BG a miss.
That said everything die have to be dumbed down to the lowest level possible, perhaps that speaks volumes0 -
Anything to do with replacing 'old-fashioned storage heaters' with 'slimline modern efficient electric radiators' filled with magic dust or moonrock...1

Glad I'm not the only one to feel the BG radio ad is bizarre! And if they'd portrayed a female as that dense . . . . . . . .1

Heat pump advert. It states heat pumps are three times more efficient than a gas boiler but then fails to mention that electric is four times the cost of gas and that you have to leave them running all day.4
-
Turn your boiler (flow) temperature down - Well, yes IF your boiler can do that AND your radiators are appropriately sized. Should your radiators be just big enough to warm the house at a flow temperature of 70°C, turning the boiler down to 60°C or even 50°C could result in the boiler running all day and fail to heat the property. End result, more gas being burnt. But adverts need to be short enough to grab the attention of Joe Average, and any attempt to provide more information will just confuse the poor sod.Her courage will change the world.

All winter for three years YouTube is swamped with adverts about how you can save 90% off your heating bills with a simple trick (cue picture showing a tiny flame under an upside down flower pot) just follow the link. It is so glaringly obvious its a scam its astonishing it does fool people every year. Nearly as astonishing is that YouTube keeps showing it despite numerous complaints.

Homefire coal.
They claim it's "made with organic content", as if that's a good thing. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)0 -
