Virgin Media - self install contract start date

They say the contract start date will be when I plug it all in - I’m expecting them to send it out quickly but still have my old broadband for another 3 weeks - can I wait that long before plugging it in so I’m not having to pay 2 lots of bills?

I think the OP wants to delay until the very last day of the current ISP contract date , before plugging in the Virgin equipment, so that as the notice period ends with the current ISP ,that’s when they connect the Virgin equipment and Virgin start charging ( possibly 3 weeks after the equipment was delivered) , will that work ? , who knows , it seems odd that Virgin state the account starts when you plug the equipment in , rather than on a specific date , what if you plug it in and it doesn’t work , what if you never plug it in ?TBH , doing what you suggest may work , if it doesn’t , and the Virgin bill starts before you connect the equipment, you will still have internet from the old provider , the only thing you lose out on is having Virgin available but not using it for a week or 3 ….it’s probably a little dismissive on my part , but it’s hardly worth worrying about …..it seems odd to me that Virgin supply service in this somewhat haphazard way , personally I would connected it sooner rather than later, that way if there is a problem it can be looked at while you still have the other service, if you connect it on the last contractual date of the current ISP, and Virgin doesn’t work, and it takes them a week to sort out the problem, that’s a week you won’t have any service at all .0
