Tv licence

Sorry I know this has probably been asked a million times but do I need a tv licence?...
I only use my tv for gaming and very occasionally watching a bit of Netflix this is all I have a tv for.
Its been like this for around 4 years but I've always been too nervous to cancel incase I get people knocking on the door demanding some sort of fine.
Thanks

I think you only need TV licence for live content.  So it sounds like you don't need one.
Do you never use a streaming service to watch the news, or anything like that?
  • If you don't watch any live content or BBC iPlayer you don't need a licence.

No need to pay for something you don't need.

Do their checklist and form to tell them you don't need one. Problem solved.

  • If you don't need a licence then no need to tell them anything.  Just ignore them.

That's the perfect way to get annoying letters. But it's your choice.

Not had one letter in 6 years using their online form. /shrug
  • If you don't need/want a licence then you just stop paying and let them know. They request that you do this every couple of years, which seems quite intrusive but it doesn't take much time so whatever.

If you have not needed a TV licence for years, a refund will be backdated for at least 11 months.

I get a letter every month, not annoying as they go straight in the recycling, like all junk mail.

I let them know and don't get anything, 1 less junk mail, piling on the floor for days.

Can you get a refund without letting them know?
  • I'm doing my bit to keep the Royal Mail in business  ;)

My recycling doesn't lie about the floor.

I cancelled a TV licence for a deceased relative and got a refund pretty quickly without specifically asking for one.
