Double Glazing guarantee

We have a large double glazed unit in our lounge which has developed condensation between the glass which appears to be covered by the guarantee. However, the guarantee also appears to only provide for replacement of the unit and leaves responsibility for fitting to me. Given the size of the unit the cost of doing this could be quite large and it doesn't appear reasonable that I should be responsible for the fitting of a replacement unit. I would appreciate any advice from other members on this forum

How old is the window and were you the original customer?

The guarantee is the guarantee, there doesn't need to be one and you can't quibble later about its terms not being "reasonable". But you may have statutory rights in relation to the original quality of the window (or its fitting).

Why do you think installation will be expensive. When I have had blown panels replaced it has been a fairly quick job.

The window is 3/4 years old and was installed by the previous owners of the property

    Was the guarantee transferable?

Ok, in that case you're stuck with its terms (if, as above, it is transferable and any formalities required to do so were done when you bought).

Have you investigated the cost of fitting? I wouldn't expect those to be prohibitive.

Purely from the size of the unit which is approximately 4 square meters

The size of the unit is unlikely to make any difference to the labour cost of replacing it.  They will pop out the four retaining beads, take the old unit out, pop the new one in and replace the beads.  It's the same process for a small window as it is for a large one.  I had eight blown panels replaced last year and it as long to measure them and get the right style, etc. than it did to replace them.

That's good, so you should get the glazed unit free of charge, and just have to pay for its installation.  Whether you consider that to be reasonable or not doesn't matter, it's what your predecessors bought as a guarantee.

Whoever supplies the double glazed unit should be willing to fit it.  Maybe a couple of hours labour, absolute tops, but that's cheaper than the unit and fitting.
