Can I just not turn up for an EasyJet flight to avoid cancellation charges?

Following some family issues, we are not able to go on a planned holiday in the Med in June.

I know that we cannot get a refund, but it looks as though we would have charges to pay if we cancel the EasyJet flights we paid for in January.

Is it therefore best to keep the bookings and just not turn up for the flights to avoid the charges?

What (additional) cancellation charges are?  Normally you pay the cost of the ticket and it's non-refundable, but there wouldn't be additional fees to cancel it.  You can just keep the booking and not turn up though. Added benefit of that is that there's an outside chance easyJet may change their schedule or cancel the flight and you'd be entitled to a refund.

Situation may be different if it's an easyJet Holidays booking where only a deposit has been paid.

Actually looking more closely at the fees section of the website it might be that the cancellation charge only applies if you cancel within the first 24 hours after booking and get a refund.

It’s a good point on the schedule change refund though. Not sure how often they change things but it might be worth me looking into.

Your cancelling easyJet flights serves no purpose, by keeping them you'll be informed of any flight changes or cancellation by easyJet that may provide refund rights, as mentioned.

What have you seen/read that makes you think this?

If you don't want the flights, simply don't show up.

I was forced to do this last year when it took us 7 hours to cross a border to get to the flight. I simply booked a flight for the next day (which surprisingly only cost about £15, thats another story though), didn't use the one I'd checked in for already and flew on the new purchase.

At no point was I asked to pay anything extra despite the cancellation charge (with refund) being listed and the original flight costing less than the charge by quite some margin.

You also maintain the benefit of the flights potentially being changed as above, leading to cancellation rights at that point with full refund.

The schedule for June is probably final by now so the chance of there being a significant change that would trigger refund rights is small. But you never know, there could be last minute disruption meaning a cancellation.

If you had Travel Insurance and were cancelling for an insured reason then you would need to actually cancel the flights to enable the insurance claim. (not sure it applies here but worth pointing out)

the 'charges' for cancelling an EasyJet flight are applicable for cancellation for refund within 24 hours of booking

Have a read of section 3 of the terms and conditions...you can also claim a refund of the APD (EasyJet do not take a fee for this)
"If you cancel, miss or do not take a flight, this does not affect the other flights on your booking. You can claim a full refund of Government Tax (as listed in Fees and Charges) for the flight(s) you did not take. You can do this by contacting our Customer Services Team."

We had to cancel two EJ flights for members of our party a few years back - we did manage to get the airport tax back though FWIW

One airline has just had some slots moved to some ungodly hour by ACL (necessitating an 04:xx departure from the origin airport) and have been warned a few may follow. That said, for a route that likely operated last year it's likely these are now fixed, but not outside the realms of possibility for a change.

We are in a unique European short haul market with a lot of groundings (one airline has almost 25% of its fleet grounded due to engine manufacturing defects so is likely to be smaller this year than last, many others are affected to a lesser extent) and there are huge delivery delays for both majoe manufacturers, so things being moved around to stream flows is actually surprisingly highly likely at the moment.

This doesn't change (at this stage) any situation for OP though.
