I have had multiple issues with tracked 48 sending from NI to mainland UK. I have used the service 6 times. All were late. On average 5-6 days. And two are so far considered lost...  The tracker states arrived at MC, and then that's it. No more you can do except chase a reimbursement.  I am currently pursuing one claim and waiting to process the next. I posted the first on the 2 June and the other on the  6. And they both say received at MC. One is Dorset the other Warrington.

I think you have been unlucky with your experience. I use RM48 a lot, dozens of times a month with no losses so far. It can be slow, about the equivalent of standard 2nd class, which it is really, but it gets there.

A claim for loss can be made after 10 working days so a claim for the one on the 2nd can be started today, but you need to wait a few more days for the other one yet.

There's a Royal Mail forum here where people might be able to advise https://royalmailchat.co.uk/community/index.php
Or even just have a browse and see if anyone else is having similar problems, if so you might find advice/answers without even having to join or post on there at all.

so what does 48 mean in this context, working days?
If items persistantly take nearly a calendar week second classpost would be cheaper and do the same job

RM48 is 2nd class but with higher compensation and more tracking included. If you are experiencing issues in your area then switching to basic 2 nd class parcels won’t help.

    As was said previously

Royal Mail do NOT claim 48 hours delivery.

Just a quick round up of a random batch of RM48 and standard 2nd class parcels
    1) sent  17th June delivered 19th June  RM48
    2) same as 1 RM48
    3)  sent 14 June delivered 17th June 2nd class
    4)  sent 11 June delivered 14th June  2nd class
    5)  sent 9th June delivered 11th June 2nd class
    6) sent 29th May delivered 3rd June 2nd class
    7) sent 29th May delivered 1st June RM48
    8) sent 27th May delivered 31st May 2nd class

so actually all my parcels are doing better than I thought they were- I was convinced some were taking longer.
