Hi all,
I am hoping for a little advice.
I recently moved into a new place and wanted the phone line activated so I could ge the internet. I called BT and got connected. I was told I could cancel within 7 days. I tried to do this but as I was on hold for 20 - 45 mins a timeevery day for 2 weeks. I never managed to cancel the line. During this time I changed to another phone provider.
I have now been sent a final bill for £231. I was never sent any information regarding cancellation fees, and the fact they would be so large. I expected to be charged for 1 months use and a cancellation fee but not £230.
Does any one have any advice as to how to get htis fee reduced. Has anyone been able to get theirs reduced?
Thanks

You've probably been billed £125 as well for the phone line activation? Thats why its so high?
Have you called for an itemisation of the bill?0 -
I have the bill, it seems I have a £70 for stopping Bt option before term expired + 161.84 for stopping service before term expired.0

Hmmm definitely give them a call, one of those figures you will definitely have to pay. I'm guessing it's probably the latter (as you're paying off the remaining months of the contract of that figure). Double check to ensure its not containing the cost of reconnection there0

What BT Option were you on. Were you signed up for one of their 18 month calling plan contracts as well,as the line rental.
Was it a new build or was their a working BT line already in situ.
Did your new supplier provide a completely new service ,or did they take over the existing BT Line. If the latter then BT would raise cancellation charges.0 -
I assume I was on the cheapest as I only wanted to be conected so I could get an internet supplier. So option 1.
The line was already in and active recently.
I went with talk talk, as far as i know they pay the line rental. Well I pay them and they pay BT(?)0 -
After experiencing horrific problems with a line installation with BT and subsequently having the line cancelled, I can only say keep onto them! I spent 3 months ringing them, spending hours on hold, being told different responses. After getting a final demand and threat of debt collectors I finally got the bill cancelled. You need to perserve and don't give in! Good luck. I don't recommend them to anyone!0

I was with TalkTalk and moved home. As I wished to contuinue my TalkTalk phone/broadband services at my new address, I telephoned TT. They stated that it was BT's responsibility. BT stated it was TT's !
Finally, I was told by TalkTalk that I had to have the active line at my new address registered in my name with BT, and contact them again once completed.
This took BT two weeks to complete, and the only information that I received was a bill for three months line rental (in advance). TalkTalk was informed and they completed the transfer a few weeks later.
I have just received my BT bill, and was expected to see a refund, but was charged £70 for termination minus my advance line rental payments.
So my pleasure for moving house and staying a customer with TalkTalk, I have had the honour of paying BT, line rental, call charges, & £70 termination fee !
Hardly fair !
Any ideas on how I can recover my £70 charge ?0 -
You cant, BT were 100% right. TT could have reconnected you, they just refused to. You asked BT to connect you and so you entered a contract with them, you now have the cancellation fee.
Basiclly TT have misled you as they will only cherry pick customers that wont cost them anything.

You could try taking Talk Talk to the Small Claims Court to recover the costs you have incurred as a result of the lies they told you - but that'd be risky IMHO (the Court may well consider that you should have adopted the 'caveat emptor' approach).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I'm afraid you're another one who's fallen for Talk Talk's lies - and are now paying the financial penalty for that.

When I asked BT to have the line at my new house in my Name, All I have been sent was a bill for the first three months line rental. I have yet to receive anything regarding T&C's of the contract - They have even missspelt my surname - They spelt it starting with a G rather than a J (not sure how they managed credit checks )
As the line was already activated, surley this is all that was required by TalkTalk/BT in order to do the transfer !0
