Just done my car, so the website seems OK now :)
Indeed yes.   Just checked the website https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk   again and it's now telling me Tax due: 1 March 2025.

I was beginning to think that either my IP address had been blacklisted or that thousands of BEV owners had swamped the site  :*
I received the confirmation e-mail stating 12-months from 14th March.
The online service still states tax expires June.
I am not sure how long the online system takes to update - I have never watched it closely before.

I renewed on Wed evening.  A couple of hours later renewal was still shown as due in May this year.  After another couple of hours the status page wouldn't load and remained thus until 5am today when it now shows renewal due March 2025.

Most similar pages tend to update overnight following amendment(s) and I expect that one would have done too if I'd been able to access it.

I may have done the renewal too late in the day for the data-slice at end of day yesterday.
Maybe it will update over night today or over the weekend.

It's disgusting they can retroactively apply this, VED is based on emissions, if it's not going to based on emissions anymore, tax all cars the same!

I agree - past changes to the regime have always been that cars remain in the regime as when first registered, so my wife's Fiesta continues at £30 even though that rate is not available for new cars.
Are all the lower rate bands also being scrapped, or will I end up paying standard rate for my EV but my wife the lower rate for her ICE?

If you have an EV & the V5 is in your own name you should renew the tax in March 2024 or 2025. This will mean you get zero duty right up to 03/26 rather than paying £180 VED from whenever your tax expires after 03/25.

Go onto the DVLA site as usual & tick the box that to say you haven't got the reminder. It'll ask you for the reg number & the 11 digit code from the V5. Accept the warning that the vehicle is already taxed & that you might be paying twice - 2x nothing is still nothing!

I did mine this morning so it'll renew 03/25 before the zero band for ZEVs finishes.
Thanks for the tip. Mentioned to Wifey yesterday, and she re-did the IONIQ, very easy (after some research), and amended about 20mins later. TiMmY the Tesla was March anyway.

It depends when she bought it.  Cars registered before 1st April 2017 will end up paying much less than cars registered after that date.  If you want to continue to pay no road tax, you just need to trade-in your EV for an older model.

Her Fiesta is a 66 plate.
So, it stays on £30 rate?

But my EV will go to standard rate.
    That is not entirely logical.

I don't think Government departments have ever been known to operate logically  >:)

But I certainly agree that the proposed arrangements are particularly illogical.

Thanks 1961Nick. Just did this for my Zoe. It's a bit bonkers to retrospectively hit EV owners (esp low powered ones like our Zoe) and still keep my 1.7 diesel Astra VED rate at £35....and even more bonkers STILL allow 'historic' vehicles to belch out full fat fumes for zero VED and zero MoT or like most Landies get adapted up to the nines and yet still be classed as historic.
