What should I do?

What would you do?

I basically sold a 50cc scooter on ebay. I sold it for £385 which I was very happy with.
The winner paid £100 deposit through paypal and was due to pay £285 on collection.

They came to collect the bike (in a clio ) and paid cash. I was stupid and didn't count the £'s there and then it was £30 short. When I realised I went back to tell them and they drove off pretty quick. I sent an email but they are ignoring me.

But the most annoying thing is 2 of the £20 were fakes.

I know I have learnt a valid lesson but should I leave bad feedback? they will probably do the same which will be really annoying. Or should I just forget about it?

Everyone please learn from my mistake and check the £'s carefully. I know its not alot but its abit unfair considering they got a good buy.

Thanks

Of course you should leave negative. They effectively havent paid you in full for the item. Next time remember to check the cash with a marker pen and actually count it!

    Thats terrible!!!

Call up your local police station and ask for advise as they are using counterfit money!!!

Also email ebay or use the live chat to talk to them and see what they advise. The only problem with it is that you only have your word for the fact it was £30 short and the counterfit money unless you ask someone to say they were with you etc!!!!! icon12.gif

They shouldn't get away with it!!

I think to learn from this is to count the money before handing over the keys!!! I was thinking of selling my car on ebay!

hold on for some more valuable advise from these mse's!!

immediatley pull off their full contact details off ebay, then pass them to the police to deal with.
make sure to use ebay tiawan to get more characters in the feedback
keep ALL the correspondance between you

and also, make sure to empty your paypal account, you'll prolly have a chargeback done to you shortly
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Thanks for the advise, I have transfered the paypal money. I have also got all information about them, e.g. address from V5 etc.
The trouble with the feedback bit, they have 'Private' feedback :(

I doubt I can do anything about it really as its my word against theres.

At least call the police, if you call your local station (Non emergency) or even look up on the website. That way they can advise you! if they say there isn't much you can do then at least you have tried. These people probably have done this before and you never know the police might just need their address! how long have they been on ebay for? hoping that the address isn't fake!!

if the address is fake it is an ebay offence and I know it doesn't help you, but they will get NARU'd

if the item you sold, a scooter, was sold through ebaymotors the buyer isn't covered by the Paypal buyer protection policy.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have had a think about it, to be honest I don't think they truely meant to give me fakes as why didn't they give the whole lot as fakes?
I spoke to my sister who is in the police and she is going to find out what they can do.

At first I thought because they have a private feedback status you can't see whether they have postive or negative feedback, but this is not the case. You can still see the amount of pos/neg u just can't read the text.
I noticed they have 121 positive feedbacks, 1 neutral and only 2 negative. So its not bad at all.
I have emailed them stating that they owe me £30, so hopefully they do the good thing and pay up.
Still not 100% sure what to do about the fake notes, I will wait until my sis gets back to me. To be honest I probably will let it go as I have enough stress at the moment and can't be bothered other £40.

The next question; they just left me positive feedback. What do I do now?

    Thanks everyone

As I see it.... You are currently £70 out of pocket (£30 + £40 in fake notes)

Now, given that your retaliatory feedback fears are now no more, I suggest you start by taking the good advise given. ;)

Use the ebay feedback properly and stop trying to manipulate its whole purpose. They ripped you off to the tune of £70 and they know it. They have to have negative feedback. They have probably have so much positive feedback because so many people don't want to give negative in case it affects their feedback. This is not the purpose of feedback. It's there to warn geniune buyers and sellers. Most people can judge from negative feedback if its just their out of retailiation etc. Don't you wish someone had warned you?

IMO Ebay really need to overhaul the feedback system. There should be a fixed period, say 4 weeks, in which you can leave feedback. Only when the 4 weeks is up should the feedback be made public. This would stop tit for tat feedback and provide a more realistic picture of the transactions. If you feel you have had a malicious feedback just for fun by someone you should be able to complain to Ebay.

If your sister is a Police Officer why didn't you speak to her as soon as it happened? Else I would have called Police immediately.
