Afternoon chums ๐
Grey and drizzly today, but I have been making my own sunshine with a day out to use my free National Trust pass ๐ Went to a new to me place, not super far away. Probably wouldn't bear a repeat visit but I enjoyed it. There was a volunteer in costume doing an interesting talk about Lent and Shrovetide in Tudor times which was nice.
Had a nice relaxing cuppa by myself, then met Mr C and the treats budget. Done a lot of plotting and scheming in my journal today, and read quite a lot of my book (good job as I want to take it back to the library tomorrow.
Booked the little car into the garage on Wednesday- the handbrake needs adjusting as it won't hold properly on a steep hill which is NOT ideal ๐
I did ask if he'd just take me on as an apprentice, I figured it would save us all some time! ๐
Need a list for the rest of the weekend...

Oh, and they didn't collect the bins last week, so I reported the missed collection and it says they'll return within 5 worthing days and to leave the bins out. Today was recycling - they have collected the recycling, but left a big tag on the actual bins saying 'oops, this isn't recycling!' ๐ I did think yesterday that I should stick a sign on it saying 'missed collection reported last week' but didn't actually do it.
I should probably bring the damn things in again now in case someone thinks I'm defacing the national park ๐

Sounds like their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. We are fairly near the end of 3 of the 4 rounds around here & this sorry we missed it today but leave them out for tomorrow/Sat/Mon is fairly common. The only comments I have ever had is when some moron left half eaten pizza in my bottle bin & another quite possibly the same moron left bricks in my normal waste bin. Suspects moved out a couple of years ago thankfully - the rest of my neighbours are lovely.

Gosh, where has the week gone?? Mostly work, I think, although we are now at the seaside, which on the whole is considerably more pleasant!
We haven't spent a fortune. ยฃ140ish for 2 nights in a clean but uninspiring hotel room - I left them a maintenance list as so much of it was shabby. One of the wall lights was hanging off, the hairdryer attachment didn't actually attach to the hairdryer, the two chairs didn't match, which didn't matter, but one was red velvet and the other chipped grey vinyl which looked like it had been outside for a while. Bathroom bin coating had half come off - I nearly bought them a replacement in a charity shop ๐
The main issue was the loo. The bathroom floor was very even and quite spongy under the vinyl, and when you sat on the loo, it sank forwards ๐ฑ at some point i suspected it might come out of the wall ๐ฌ
Anyway, no point asking to move rooms - we'd already requested a room with a bay window - booking.com had sent a message to say the hotel had said they could accommodate our request, but then the hotel said they'd try but couldn't guarantee, and then didn't. Don't think they tried very hard - there was a bay windowed room next to ours and we were convinced there was nobody in it - we could hear people on the other side, and above, but not there ๐
Hey ho. Couldn't get anyone in to look at the loo because Mr C was so annoyed about the lack of bay window he moved all the furniture round so the bed looked out over the window ๐
Anyway. Aside from that we had a nice time, and as I say, it was at least clean, and we could see the sea.
Shared one portion of a Chinese takeaway on the first night, and ate in W.Spoons last night. Both lunches were sandwiches from a shop. Plenty of cafe trips of course, and no shortage of cake.
We're now on our way to another town - an artist friend of ours is exhibiting at an International Womens Day event so we're off to say hello ๐

Love that Mr C moved the furniture around.

If be too scared to move furniture around in a hotel, after working in many you never know what you'll find underneath and that would put me off staying in the room!! Good yours was clean! For me ignorance is bliss.

@Cheery_Daff - wow, you are both incredibly patient! 70 pounds a night with all that I'd have been less than pleased and more than vocal!

Ha, Mr C was NOT patient ๐ฌ But isn't usually willing to complain to anyone except me ๐ Unfortunately for him, I am generally unwilling to complain at all, so he just has to put up with whatever annoying him - in this case by moving furniture while I hid in the bathroom ignoring him ๐
Still, we had a nice time in each other's company for some of the weekend, and I had a lovely scenic walk on my own yesterday afternoon.
Met up with friends at their event, and we've decided to stay with them tonight, and that'll I'll take tomorrow as an impromptu day off ๐
Currently having a nice bit of tea and cake by myself in a canal-side cafe while Mr C has a nap in the car. A sensible state of affairs!
Do need to get back to slimming world after this weekend though - I've very much embraced the 'holiday food' part of the weekend ๐ฌ
15 -
Slimming World this morning - put on 3lbs in the last 2 weeks ๐ฌ Definitely back on it now!
An up and down week at work. My employer made the national news with its shenanigans ๐ and there are potential long term financial consequences - not immediately for me, but definitely for many of my colleagues if things go ahead as planned. Also shorter term consequences in terms of some ongoing internal activities, which is causing many headaches.
I did have some good news though - a funding bid has got through the first round successfully. Obviously that now means a whole lot of work to prepare the second stage (and no prospect of the actual money for another year in any case!)
With all the upheaval, Mr C and I have been talking finances, and have started looking at RightMove just in case drastic measures should be required. Not on the cards just yet, but I think it will sharpen our focus on getting more things finished in the house this year.
Anyway, the sun has been shining today ๐ Yesterday we had a lovely day out together mooching about, definitely a "retirement" day ๐ Today after slimming world we went somewhere we'd not been before - found a cheerful cafe but likely won't be returning that way anytime soon.
I've spent much of the afternoon in the garden. Stones have all been removed from the veg patch (hooray!) and now I am conducting the arduous process of carting barrowloads of last year's rotted hay to the veg patch for mulch. Two down, probably at least another 30 to go ๐ฌ (not today!!). Will definitely be putting next year's hay stash somewhere else ๐ (it wasn't my plan to use it for this or I would have done!)
Been a lovely afternoon, with the first curlews wheeling about the skies, and an occasional slightly grumpy daytime hoot from the tawny owl that lives in our confiers ๐ there was a flock of redwings in the trees when we got home too ๐
Trying to cover all of this space within the fence. It'll take me a while!
Right, one more barrow load, then I think I'll head inside. Sun's gone in and there are rainclouds brewing to the west...
8 -
Three down, and I've measured the plot and it'll need 32 barrowloads in total ๐ฌ Going to do one more tonight then I'll stop before I can't move any more!
