Ha, thank you @KajiKita and @Elisheba - I've had a lovely yoga session and have commandeered the new emergency fan heater for my study - I hate being cold while I'm trying to work! This has a temperature function, so I should be able to set it to get to a certain temperature then it will just stick there. I won't have it on all day, but might try it for an hour at first.
Wishing I hadn't scheduled meetings for today but they are at least all cheerful ones!10 -

Despite the fact we've both worked over the break, today felt like the first proper day back for us too - Mr MV had to get up to go into the office. So I feel your pain!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ha, thank you! 😂 I'm not really complaining (too much) it's just been a bit of a shock 😂😂
Plumber has just texted to say he's on the way - he's going to do a service and see why the boiler is dripping 🙄
Also Mr C went out in the car earlier and had to come back ti swap cars as it kept losing power 🙄 It's booked into the garage on Wednesday anyway as the lever for opening the bonnet fell off and I've got a new one for the to fit 🙄
Hoping both boiler and car have plenty of life left in them!5 -
You do seem to spend rather a lot of time at the garage with one car or another Cheery! I know you're a fan of the 'drive it until it's dead' school of thought, but do you keep a track of how much they actually cost in repairs?Hope the plumber can sort the boiler out.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I know 🙄 Partly we just hate buying cars 😂 I'd probably replace before Mr C would, but it's always a compromise. Not kept track of how much each individual one has cost, no, although I will have overall costs in YNAB/spreadsheets I suppose. We do take it to a very cheap and cheerful garage (so some of the back and forth is because they've not actually done all the things they were meant to...). Plumber has been. He's very much in favour of replacing the boiler 😬 which he's been saying since we first had him here several years ago 😬 obviously it wasn't actually leaking when he was here 🙄 so he speculated that it might be the diverter valve, but then it started again- it's the tiny pipe that goes to the pressure gauge. So that's not a massively big job, and the boiler can still run in the meantime (we can see the pressure on the digital display too).
He's quoting about £2800 for a new boiler. I did tell him the car is a more immediate priority, while the boiler is still working at least!
Sigh. Some conversations to be had i think!11 -
Your plumber sounds expensive! We had a new boiler a couple of years ago for about £1800. It was a top of the range one with an app connected to it so we can turn the heating on before we come back from a holiday for example so the bungalow is warm rather than cold (as long as the internet is working!)
I'd shop around a bit if I was you.3 -
That's interesting, thank you. He's lovely - recommended by a friend (he's her son's friend, who was just starting out when he first came to us, but that was about 7 years ago). Been very happy with him, but you're right, that's quite a jump! I think I'd feel guilty about going with someone else, especially if I then had to get him back to service it 🙈joedenise said:Your plumber sounds expensive! Hmm, just did a quick check on B0xt, who are meant to be cheap I believe. Cheapest for us is £2479. I'll do some further investigation, but I suspect we may be coming out more expensive because we're not on mains gas (not all plumbers are LPG certified) and because we have 14 radiators 🙈😬
Anyway, won't be going down that route just yet (hopefully!)7
