In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -

OK What do we know. Cheery lives in the Peak District.
She drove 'down' for 5 hours so south?
It has a pier, must be fairly large as she can't see the sea and it is a good walk to the seafront. Mr C went to Asda to buy a fan so it has an Asda.
Can see container ships, so near to a port? although anywhere near the English Channel would fit.
Sea kale? my first thought was Norfolk but that is Samphire you get there.
ADD I have found this on Wiki about Sea Kale.
In England it is primarily found on the southeast coast (extensively along Chesil Beach in Dorset), but it also occurs on stretches of the East Anglian and Cumbrian coasts. In Wales it is found on the northern beaches and in Scotland in the extreme southwest.[13]If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.4 -
Unless things have changed a lot I would think it highly unlikely that at this time of year you can get to Devon or Cornwall in 5 hours.5
