I've never managed to make the freezer test work 🙄 In fact, my jam making has always been infrequent and a bit hit and miss, mostly due to my lack of desire to follow instructions 😂
I did follow specific instructions this time though, eland even had some little wax discs to put on top 😂all sealed and nicely cooling now 😊 I did most of the washing up as I went along but am left with two pans and a very sticky stove top, and all my jars are stuck to the teatowel I unwisely stood them on to ladle the jam 😂
Mr C has gone out, and I have done a workout, the freezer contents are in a freezer bag inside the hay box, and the freezer is unplugged (might as well save a few pence of expensive electric 😂).
Back in a sec with a plan for the evening...7 -

That'll do. Although I confess I've sat down with a cuppa and am now feeling rather reluctant to get up and spend an hour running round with a duster 🙄6 -
I'm hopeless. I rarely get anything done after work - particularly at this time of year.3

Me neither, but I've had today off so no excuses 😂
Unsurprisingly, I haven't got all that done though 😂 ended up having a long chat with my sister who was in need of a pep talk, defrosted the freezer and got everything cleaned up and back in it, and cleaned all the jam paraphernalia out of the kitchen (everything was sticky!)
Had some tea, but I've done no batch cooking, and haven't thought about breakfast - working at home tomorrow though so no crisis.
Didn't do home blessing hour, but I did run the hoover round downstairs which is a start.
Not going to get the flute out now. I might do some banking, but equally I might not - I'm already back on the sofa with a cuppa...
Ooh, in MSE news I cashed out £1.14 from TCB today 😂😂 Also did the Happy wheel for the first time in weeks, ended £60.98 up!8 -
Up early enough to do some food prep in cheaper electric time this morning - maybe the prospect of saving 1 or 2 pence is what will get me out of bed earlier in the morning?! 😂
Four portions of broccoli and mushroom bake prepared and ready to go in the oven at 11am (the cheapest time 😂). Sadly I also have a meeting at 11, so I'm going to turn the oven on and shove it in, with the timer set, and hope for the best. That, or the smoke alarm will wake Mr Cheery and he can take it out 😂6 -
You need a wireless headset you can wander about with enough to be able to pull stuff out of the oven 😉😊

Ha 😂 my study is next to the kitchen so if necessary I can just turn my video off and no out and I'll still be able to hear anyway, thankfully 😂4

Well. Food was cooked in the oven - 3 portions now in the freezer for future work lunches or quick teas 😊
Mr Cheery made soup early afternoon so we both had that for tea, and the remainder went in the freezer 😊
Going to do the same again today woth the 11am cheaper rate. I've got a plan. Leave my desk at 10.45, get some washing ready, weigh out granola ingredients, start chopping. Then at 11am, get the washing machine on, oven on, hob on, and make 4 portions of pasta bake, 7 portions of granola, and 3 portions of a lentil casserole thing in the haybox. Should all be done, including the washing, before 12 😂
That's the plan, anyway!
Obviously must get on with some more work before then...
Oh, and we used 11.53kwh of electricity yesterday 😬 Both at home all day and evening, and a lot of cooking - the oven was on, plus hob for the thing I made and Mr C's soup. What we used between 11 and 12 (when I had the oven on, but there was other stuff plugged in too of course) was 1.4kwh, costing 27p. If we'd done that at teatime, by my rough calculations it would have cost 70p.
Not sure what else made it so high yesterday. My food prep first thing, Mr C's soup, I had the electric heater on til about 3pm, plus we were both in separate rooms with lights, laptops etc, and I did have the dehumidifier on too... £3.26 total electric (would have been more under the old tariff). High for us i think.
Anyway, will see what today brings. I'm sure the novelty will wear off at some point! 😂5 -
Oh, and just for comparison, at 11am it's 19.54p per kwh, whereas at 5.30pm it's 47.44, so definitely worth shifting. Pence each time, but even if we just shift say 30p a day that's £9 a month (not £9 a month cheaper than our old bill, but £9 cheaper than if we were using it at peak times).
Will be interesting to see what it adds up to over November. It looks like the bill includes the average unit price paid, so as long as that's lower than what it would have been on the other tariff, I'll be happy 😊4 -
wow! its amazing hows those little amounts add up and what a difference between 11 am and and 5.30!!!!Im off to look at our tariffs, I have no idea if there is any saver times offered♥️ ♥️ ♥️🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸Decluttering 2025 So far 403 / 2025
