No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Morning Cheery,How exciting a shiny new diary!I was interested to see we are the same age and in relationships with someone a bit older, my OH has just under a year to go to State pension age but he'd been a life long renter and became a first time buyer in January! We have a relatively small mortgage of 120k and both work part time. Looking forward to following your diary with interest

3). £2,411.31/£3000 in Investment ISA (35/50 investments)
4). Increase cash savings & saving pots
5). Keep debt to a minimum.

Hello 😊 Lovely to see someone else with a similar age difference 😊 We got together when I was 25 and he was 43 - now I'm 43 and he's 61 life is rather different! Best shift myself. We're going to see Mr Cheery's dad today and I'm pleased to see it's raining a bit - not enough to make the journey rotten, but enough that I'm not slightly grumpy that I'm not spending the day in my own garden 😂 He promised to take us out for lunch once we'd found out about my job - whether I got it or not - so today is the day for that 😊 It'll be weird not having the little dog there, but hopefully it will at least mean the house is slightly easier to clean, and we don't have a fortnight of poo to collect from the garden...8 -

Ha, indeed not! I use it as mulch under the fruit trees, and chuck the rest into an odd fenced off space between fields where the previous owner used to keep pigs. It rots down nicely and I'll keep adding to it and plant some more fruit trees next year. It's too far from the house for veg, but it's next to the field the young woodland is in, so a little orchard will be a nice addition 😊themadvix said:Me four!

People keep suggesting I sell it, but it's rare that I actually manage to make properly dry hay that can be used eg for animals. Needs several sunny/dry days in a row at the right time of year and when I have time to cut/turn/collect. I usually manage a bit each year, but it's never much. The first summer, we made about 10 bales which was great - but we're baling by hand in a wheelie bin so it's very labour intensive and they're not exactly very structurally sound. OK to stick in my own shed, but not to transport and sell.
When I do manage some dry, it goes in an outbuilding. Some used to go for the chickens but not much - only to keep off the worst of the mud in the winter but it wasn't very good for that really. Mostly gets used in the garden, so no real change there.
Hay is a byproduct here. I'm not 'making hay', I'm removing the fertility from the field to encourage a different set of plants, so they hay just gets used where it's useful instead 😊10
